DART Wildlife Rescue

Thanks to the staff of Iganyana Lodge, who reported seeing a snared zebra on their estate, TWO separate male zebras were subsequently spotted with wires snares around their necks in a small bachelor herd comprising five individuals.

Getting caught in a poacher’s snare is invariably a death sentence for most wild animals yet somehow these two young zebra stallions were able to fight and break free from the cruel devices.

We can only speculate on how many unfortunate wild animals are not as lucky as these zebra to have escaped !!

Darting a second zebra in a herd that had already been disturbed by the earlier immobilization posed a challenge but luck was on our side and soon both snared zebras had been rescued and saved.

It was a very satisfying end to another beautiful afternoon in Africa.

Grateful thanks for all the assistance received today not only from Gary (Friends of Hwange); Bheki (Hwange Safari Lodge) plus Terry and his helpful Safari Guests (Iganyana Safari Camp)  but not to be forgotten are the kind members of our DART Donor Community who help to cover the cost of hidden expenses like vehicle fuel, wildlife immobilizing drugs etc. etc.
