About - DART Wildlife Rescue

The Dete Animal Rescue Trust (DART) is a Legally Registered Wildlife Trust (MA350/2015) that was established  in the year 2000.

In response to a fast growing number of snared and injured wild animals being seen in and around Hwange National Park in 1999, DART was established to assist the Park Authorities by providing a rapid rescue team to dart, remove poacher’s snares and treat the injured wild animals of Hwange National Park.

For the last two decades DART has been the primary “first-responder” called on by the Park Authorities and local safari operators to remove snares from injured wildlife in Hwange.

Location - DART Wildlife Base

The DART Wildlife Rescue Team is based in the small town of Dete situated on the border of Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe, Africa.

Hwange is Zimbabwe’s largest National Park and covers an area of 14,651 sq km (5,657 sq mi) which is roughly the size of the state of Connecticut in the USA.

From our base in the small town of Dete, it is not unusual for DART to be called to Bumbusi or Sinamatella Camps in the extreme north of the Park or to Ngamo and Bomani in the extreme south to dart and remove poacher’s snares from dangerous wild animals like Lions and Elephants or Endangered Species like Painted Dogs or Cheetah.
